Tag Art

Tag art is one of the simplest formats for collage and rubber stamping that you’ll ever find. You can create a miniature work of art in minutes. These can become bookmarks, a collection of blessing or prayer cards, miniature photo galleries, etc., etc.

All you need is your imagination and some basic supplies. Tag art may be as simple as a rubber stamp design and a written message. More elaborate pieces can be collaged, painted, and embellished with tiny found objects. Add a decorative cord or ribbon to finish your creation.

Tag Art

Here are some ideas for materials you may wish to incorporate
as you create Tag Art:

  • Shipping tags in a variety of styles and sizes (available at office supply stores).

  • Magazines and printed materials for collage, tickets, old postcards, letters, etc.

  • Color copies of your favorite photos for collaging.

  • Rubber stamps and colorful ink pads.

  • Glue stick or rubber cement for gluing paper to paper.

  • Amber shellac (available at the hardware store) to give your Tag Art an antiqued look.

  • Brushes for applying the shellac (do not use foam brushes for this).

  • Denatured Alcohol for cleaning brushes (be sure to use this with adequate ventilation).

  • Tacky glue for attaching embellishments.

  • Tiny seashells

  • Metallic stickers

  • Charms

  • Coins

  • Beach glass

Try making a series of blessing cards. When they are finished coat the front and back of each piece with amber shellac. Hang with clothespins from clothesline to dry. When they have dried put your collection on a piece of cord or ribbon. Tie the ends and embellish them with charms or tiny bells.
